We’ve already introduced some amazing Winter Spa destinations and Winter Ski destinations, so this week we thought we could introduce some snow festivals that begin in January!
Jirisan Namwon Baraebong Snowflake Festival (지리산 남원 바래봉 눈꽃축제)
Unbong Herb Valley boasts spectacular snow-covered fields due to its high altitude that keeps the snow from melting.
Organized by Unbong Aehyanghoe and Unbong-eup, the festival features a variety of winter activities including ice and snow sledding, snowman making, snowball fights and a kite-flying contest. Visitors can also have some baked sweet potatoes while taking a break from the activities.

Chilgapsan Ice Fountain Festival (칠갑산얼음분수축제)
Chilgapsan Mountain was called the Alps of Chungcheongnam-do. Nestled at the foot of the peak of Chilgapsan Mountain, Cheonjang-ri Alps Village is located at a high degree as its name ‘Cheonjang’ (천장; ceiling) suggests.
The village includes the trail path of Chilgapsan Mountain, Cheonjang Lake, Cheonjang Lake suspension bridge, Rural and Urban Interchange Center, international standard-sized stadium, restaurant, swimming pool, educational center, horse-riding center, and holiday villas (also known as pensions). Various festivals like Ice Fountain Festival, International Calabash Festival, and Chilgapsan Mountain Bean Festival are also held in this village.

From Central City Terminal, take an express bus bound for Jeongsan Bus Terminal. Transfer to a local bus bound for Cheongyang-Jeongsan and get off at Cheonjang-ri Bus Stop (3 bus stops).
Walk along the road in the same direction of the bus toward Cheonjangho Lake for 830m

Cheongpyeong Snowflake Festival (청평 얼음꽃 축제)
Cheongpyeong Snow Flake Festival located in Gapyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do includes fun activities such as catching trout with bare hands, ice fishing, riding on tradition sleds and many other hands-on activities.
Visitors who had paid admission to the fishing reservoir are also invited to watch the free circus performance offered.

Cheongpyeong Station (Gyeongui-Jungang Line) and Exit 1.
The festival venue is about 5-min walking distance away from the station.

Daegwallyeong Snow Festival (대관령 눈꽃축제)
The Daegwallyeong Snow Festival is held in the Hoenggye-ri area, which is located in Daegwanryeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do.
The festival starts with a fireworks display, followed by various programs such as a singing contest, an international naked marathon contest, a singing contest for multicultural families, a climbing competition, snow art contests, a snow literature event, etc.

From Dong Seoul Bus Terminal, take an intercity bus to Heonggye (횡계).
Bus schedule: 06:32~ 20:05 at 30 min interval. (Subjected to change.)
Exit going right out of the Heonggye Bus Terminal (횡계시외버스공용정류장)
Walk along Daegwallyeong-ro Street (대관령로) until you reach the Heonggye Rotary (횡계로타리), which is just a roundabout.
Turn right onto Jangseon-gil Road (장선길) and the festival is about 200m ahead.

Taebaeksan Mountain Snow Festival (태백산 눈축제)
Frolic in the fantastic world of white snow at Taebaesan Mountain! Danggol Square of Taebaeksan Provincial Park, the festival’s main venue, will hold a snow sculpture exhibition for visitors to enjoy ice sculptures and a range of other winter-themed artwork from home and abroad.
There will also be a wide variety of amusement facilities such as a snow tunnel, slide and rafting area as well as snow and ice sculptures. Around Hwangji Pond, visitors may enjoy the light & ice festival along with the beautiful world of lights created by luminaries and the shining stars in the sky.
A number of other interactive programs such as snow sledding and other fun games will be held during the festival period. The festival full of fun and excitement will be the best winter destination providing worthwhile memories for adults dreams of happiness for kids.
