What is Mandu?

Dumplings are so versatile. You can serve them as a meal, snack, appetizer or party food. There are many variations, depending on what you choose to add to the filling. You can steam, boil, fry and pan-fry dumplings and eat them alone or add to soups or salads.

On big Korean holidays like New Year’s Day, families would gather together and make dumplings while catching up with each other. Today many Koreans buy pre-made dumplings and there are some decent options. But, there is nothing like hand-made dumplings made from scratch.

Gaesong Jib

This restaurant is famous for its 50 years of tradition! They are famous for their dumplings full of pumpkin and beansprouts and the perfect portion for one mouthful, and best dish is their pickled cucumbers made with entire, whole cucumbers. Gaesong House is also famous as a scholarship fund for Korea University students because the owner funds scholarships for underfinanced students.

Maemil Flower House

Located in Seoul Jongro-gu, it started in 1990 as a tiny store in the whole, and became a buckwheat restaurant in 2001. Buckwheat pancakes, kalguksu and other buckwheat dishes are very popular.

Handmade Dumpling House



This restaurant is famous for representing the true “Seoul” dumpling. Their signature dishes are dumplings and dumpling soup made with colorful dumplings in pink, yellow, and a myriad of shades. Although it is a little expensive because the high quality flour, it is very good for your health. Making 5,000 to 6,000 dumplings a day, their kimchi is also known for being delicious.

Pyeongando Dumpling House

Located in Seoul Jongro-gu, this restaurant began in Yeoido in 1992 and moved in 2005 to the Gwanghwamoon area. They are famous for their large and generous dumplings made with beansprouts, wide variety of jeon and dumpling jeongol made with beef stock. This restaurants dumplings do not use onions, noodles or chives in its fillings.
