Taebaek Sunflower Festival in Gangwon-do

The 2015 Taebaek Sunflower Festival is coming!

Festival Period: July 24 to August 16, 2015


Guwau Village in Taebaek-si, Gangwon-do is now holding its sunflower celebration of the year.

Starting today, the festival will last for 3 weeks till August 16, giving you full chance to embrace the nature.
Alongside the largest and most beautiful sunflower field in Korea, you can also visit the cosmos field, fir forest and maybe even see some Korean native farm animals!!

Cosmos, lotus… visitors can enjoy other 300 species wild flowers at the festival

A Sunflower Concert will be held at 19:30pm on August 1, the festival is also providing photo exhibition, art exhibition and various experiencing program including making sunflower handkerchiefs and T-shirts, feeding animals throughout the festival period.


Outdoor Resting Area

Tried taking pictures, you can also drop by the Sunflower Café and enjoy a cup of refreshing herb tea, there are sunflower tea, pine needle tea, ogapi tea and many others.

Local natural herb products and flower seeds will be on sale during the festival, you can even bring home a mini sunflower tree of your own!! Isn’t that fabulous!!


Can’t wait to know how to get there?

If you’re leaving from Seoul, you can get to the festival field by

Intercity Bus:
Take bus from Dong Seoul Bus Terminal to Taebaek Terminal (takes about 3 hrs)
Then take a taxi from Taebaek Terminal to Highlands Botanical Garden (고원자생식물원)
Take train from Seoul Station to Taebaek Station (about 4 hrs)
Then take Bus No.13 from Taebaek Station and get off at Korea Water Resources Corporation (수자원공사) bus stop, the Highlands Botanical Garden will be within 10mins walk.

Or you can also type ‘강원도 태백시 황지동 283번지‘ or ‘고원자생식물원‘ in the navigation app to find the location.


Entrance Fee:  5,000 won for adults

3,000 won per person for students (primary to high school) or group above 20
