Cold Noodles ( Naengmyeon )
Naengmyun became hugely popular after the Korean War. There are mainly two varieties of naengmyun: mul naengmyun (plain) and bibim naengmyun (spicy). Naengmyeon is one of the most beloved summer foods in Korea. The noodles however will not be cut when served so they will be very long. This is to symbolise long life and good health.
Ginseng Chicken Soup ( Samgye-tang )
Ginseng chicken soup is a hot, steaming, delicious dish that features a small chicken stuffed with rice, ginseng, garlic, and jujube. This food will definitely boost your energy during summer.
Redbean ice ( Patbingsu )
Patbingsu is a Korean shaved ice dessert with sweet toppings such as chopped fruit, condensed milk, fruit syrup, and Azuki beans. The snack is highly popular in Korea when summer.The food originally began as ice shavings with red bean paste,but now new varieties of bingsu was born in Korea Not only using red bean for toppinng,but using fruit, chocolate, macarons,or cake as topping.
Jjolmyeon
Jjoymyeon is a spicy dish made with noodles and vegetables. The hot sauce is a combination of gochujang, garlic, vinegar, and sugar. The unique noodles, refreshing vegetable toppings and the delicious sauce are beautifully combined to create one of the most addictive noodles dishes. This dish is especially great for hot summer days but certainly can be enjoyed throughout the year. In Korea, jjolymyeon is considered “boon-sik” which is a light meal or a snack.
Mulhui
Mulhui is a spicy chilled sashimi soup. Mulhui can have different variations of seafood depending on your preference such as squid, octopus, raw fish etc.
Kong-guksu
Kong-guksu is noodles in cold soybean soup. The soup is made by soaking cooked soybeans in cold water and then grinding them up with a millstone. For taste, you can add some sugar or salt.
Grilled Eel ( Jangeo Gui )
Another popular summer food is grilled Eel. Koreans believe the dish improves stamina and help prevent heat exhaustion. The eel is filleted, grilled on a charcoal grill, cut into small pieces and served with various side dishes. It is usually seasoned with sesame seeds, sesameoil, sugar and soy sauce
Ice Cream
Korea has many unique ice creams. They are available in all convenience stores and supermarkets and they’re very very very cheap. When the weather getting hot, ice cream is the best choice to make your body stay cold.
