In Korea, there are many special days celebrated, sometimes for no special reasons at all. And Pepero Day is the exact example of such celebration. Perpero day is not a official holiday, but similar meaning as Valentines day in Korea.
Korean give pepero snacks to friends or lovers every year on 11/11.
The original purpose of the Pepero Day was to exchange peperos with each other in hopes of becoming taller and thinner.
The current purpose is to exchange peperos to show affection for friends and loved-ones.
You may be wondering why that date? Well because the skinny snacks resemble the numerals in the abbreviated form of the date — 11/11.
To those who are not familiar with Pepero, it’s a snack manufactured by Korea’s well known company Lotte Confectionery. It’s a kind of biscuit stick dipped in chocolate. Currently Lotte has come up with various types of flavors for their Peperos. And it is very easy to find different Pepero gift sets in the stores everywhere.
Although it is just a commercial marketing campaign at the very beginning. Now it is turning into an very important day to Korean.
