The Pyeongchang Trout Festival takes place during winter in the town of Jinbu-myeon in Pyeongchang-gun district. It’s located in Ganghwado province which is above Seoul, 1 or 2 hours from the center of Seoul.
It’s good if visitors will come early in the morning, because you can stay there and enjoy a big varieties of programs such as ice and lure fishing for trout, snow programs, ice programs, folk programs, and more. There will also be traditional folk games including sledding and top spinning, and you can try out sports such as riding 4-wheel ATVs, snow rafting, sleigh trains.
If you’re going to visit this festival, you better be prepared, because it’ll be really cold. Also take with you chair to sit and hot packs. In the morning it’s more easier to catch a fish and if you caught a fish from ice fishing and lure fishing can be prepared right away at a nearby restaurant. It’ll cost you 3,000 won. But taste is very good.
Trout farming first started in Pyeongchang due to its cold, clear waters. Trout offer plenty of nutrition, and their natural taste makes them delicious when eaten raw. Also you can try bare-handed fishing, but it’s really hard!
Odaecheon Stream is a 7-min walk from the Jinbu Bus Terminal. For more information check this page festival700.or.kr (Korean only).
