What are “Seoul City Walking Tours”?
“Seoul City Walking Tours” is a free program offered by the city of Seoul designed for tourists who want to see Seoul’s top tourist attractions on foot under the expert guidance of multilingual tour guides.
What are “Seoul Cultural Tourism Volunteer Guides”?
“Seoul Cultural Tourism Volunteer Guides” are experts that are knowledgeable in Seoul’s history and culture. They volunteer as guides to help visiting tourists understand Seoul in a deeper way.
Walking Tour Introduction
About Gyeongbok Palace tour, Bukchon Hanok Village tour, Deoksu Palace-Jeong-dong tour, Insadong-Unhyeongung tour
Hours Weekdays: 10 a.m., 2 p.m. Weekends: 10 a.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m.

※ Please be advised the time for opening and closing of the courses are available at detail content view.

Number of Participants Individual: Up to 10 people Group: 11 or more people
※ 21 or more people for the Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung tours
Language Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese
Fee Free (Admission fees to the royal palaces & fees for cultural experience programs, etc. are not included in the tours and must be paid for separately.)
  1. Gyeongbokgung (Gyeongbok Palace)

Visit the heart and center of the Joseon Dynasty, Gyeongbokgung!

This walking tour starts at Gyeongbokgung (Gyeongbok Palace), the first royal palace built by the Joseon Dynasty over 600 years ago, and along a charming traditional stone wall path to Cheongwadae (Blue House) Sarangchae, a historical memorial museum about the Korean presidential residence, where visitors can learn about the past, present and future visions of Seoul and Korea.

[Walking Tour Details]

  • Route : Gyeongbokgung (Gyeongbok Palace): Gwanghwamun (Main and South Gate) -> Heungnyemun (Second Inner Gate) -> Geunjeongmun (Third Inner Gate) -> Geunjeongjeon (Imperial Throne Hall) -> Sajeongjeon (Executive Office) -> Gyeonghoeru (Royal Banquet Pavilion) -> Gangnyeongjeon (King’s Quarters) -> Gyotaejeon (Queen’s Quarters) -> Jagyeongjeon (Late Queen’s Quarters) -> Hyangwonjeong (Hyangwonjeong Pavilion)
  • Length of tour : 2 hours
  • Meeting Place : In front of Gyeongbokgung Ticket Booth (digital equipment rental)

※ Experience programs offered by museums are not included in the walking tour. Participation in experience programs must be done individually once the tour is over.

2. Bukchon Hanok Village

A traditional Korean village with over 600 years of Korean history

This walking tour takes visitors around the area of Bukchon Hanok Village, the only place in Seoul where hundreds of traditional Korean houses, or hanoks, are clustered together. Bukchon Hanok Village is an important area for culture and the arts, with its number of museums, craft workshops and historic landmarks.

[Walking Tour Details]

  • Route : Unhyeongung -> Bukchon Cultural Center -> Choongang Middle & High School -> Bukchon-ro 11-gil -> Bukchon-ro 12-gil -> Bukchon Museum -> Jeongdok Library
  • Length of tour : 2~3hours
  • Meeting Place : Ticket Office of Unhyeongung

3. Deoksugung (Deoksu Palace) – Jeong-dong

The Original Center of Seoul’s Expat Community

This walking tour takes visitors around Jeong-dong, a neighborhood to the west of Deoksugung (Deoksu Palace), home to some of Seoul’s best architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

[Walking Tour Details]

  • Route : 1) Deoksugung (Deoksu Palace) –> 2) Seoul Museum of Art –> 3) Paichi (Baejae) Hakdang History Museum (Appenzeller/Noble Memorial Museum) –> 4) Chungdong (Jeongdong) First Methodist Church –> 5) Jungmyeongjeon –> 6) Site of the Former Ewha Hakdang –> 7) Site of the Former Sontag Hotel –> 8) Site of the Former Russian Legation
  • Length of tour : 2 hours
  • Meeting Place : Ticket booth at Deoksugung
  • Transportation : Take subway line 1 or 2 to City Hall Station and go out exit 2 or 12.

4. Insadong-Unhyeongung (Unhyeon Palace)

An area full of traditional culture and art in the heart of the city

Find beautiful antique furniture, paintings, folk art and craft works at some of the many traditional Korean shops lining the streets of Insadong.

This walking tour takes visitors around the area of Insadong, a quaint neighborhood in the center of Seoul that transports visitors back to a time when women wore hanbok and men rode horses. With its wooden tea houses, boutique galleries and street vendors selling traditional snacks, a stroll through Insadong is mandatory for all visitors.

[Walking Tour Details]

  • Route : Tapgol Park – Tong-in Store – Myungsindang pilbang – The Central Temple of Cheondogyo – Mingadaheon (Min’s Club) Kyungin Museum of Fine Art Napcheong Bronzeware -Ssamzie-gil – Jogyesa(Free trial Available) – Bosingak
  • Length of tour : 2~3 hours
  • Meeting Place : Ticket booth at Unhyeongung
