Ewha Archrives : Simple but Significant
The history of Ewha Womans University is more than just a simple history of an education institute; Ewha’s history occupies an important part in the modern history of Korea, of female education and also of women’s rights movement.
Ewha Archives was founded in October 1989 to continue research, arrangement, and preservation of the history of Ewha Womans University, the first advanced educational institute for women in Korea. On its 120th anniversary in May 2006, Ewha Archives moved into the restored original school building of Ewha Haktang, and was redesigned as the main historical institute at Ewha, consisting of the Exhibition Hall, an administration office and a storage.
Ewha Archives, settled among the greenery hill, designed its Exhibition Hall in the Korean traditional building, restored from the original school building, the Ewha Haktang. The Exhibition Hall consists of a permanent exhibition room, a special exhibition area committed annually to different themes, an audiovisual education room, a letter room, and a prayer room.
Ewha Archives offers information related to not only the history of Ewha, but also the data for research in modern women’s history and education history as well as modern history of Korea. Equipped with a storage furnished with a thermo-humidistat as well as a reading room, Ewha Archives is continuously collecting to preserve Ewha’s historical data and is exhibiting and providing historical materials.
